Umuada is a specialist supported housing project for Black and Minority Ethnic women and their children which provides emergency, short term accommodation for those experiencing domestic violence.

Umuada was established in 1994 and is owned by Nottingham Community Housing Association. We provide Comprehensive Care and Support to meet international standards ISO 9001.

Accommodation

  • 12 bed space refuge 
  • Fully furnished 
  • Easy access to local town 
  • Easy access to public transport 
  • Communal areas 
  • All accommodation is maintained to the highest standard 
  • Secure indoor play area & outdoor activity area 
  • Qualified childrens worker

Service User Involvement

  • To gain employment 
  • To gain further education/training 
  • To gain more permanent accommodation and independent living 
  • To gain essential life skills e.g. managing finances, shopping 
  • To gain advice in claiming welfare benefits 
  • To gain advice in accessing local  facilities e.g. doctors, solicitors

Support and Advice

  • Person centred support plans developed with Service Users 
  • Named Keyworker for each individual 
  • Out of hours support provided by the NCHA SMaRT service (Support Management and Response Team)

Support offered

  • Support sessions and regular Service User meetings 
  • Involvement in producing support package 
  • Respect for choices, privacy, confidentiality and promotion of equalities and diversity
  • Support around safety planning
